Sometimes I wonder how much of my life I’ve actually been enjoying, and how much I’ve been using to get through it.

Because there are days when sadness feels like it never left. I just gave it less room to speak.

I found something to watch. Someone to talk to. Something to buy. Another thing to finish before I could sit down.

And by the time I finally had a moment to myself, I was too tired to feel anything.

Then someone asked how I was doing.

“Good. Just busy.”

I wonder how many times those two words have stood in for an answer I didn’t know how to give.

You can keep your life moving for a long time without asking whether you feel present in it. There is always another responsibility, another notification, another reason to put yourself off until later.

But when exactly is later?

After everything gets done? After everyone else is okay? After you become some future version of yourself who finally deserves to relax?

I think about how easily a whole day can become something to finish. Then a week. Then a year you barely remember except for how tired you were.

And everybody keeps telling you how strong you are.

Sometimes I want to ask what they mean by that.

Do you see someone who feels supported, or someone who has become very good at continuing without it?

I wonder how much of what people call my personality is what I reach for when I don’t know how to say I’m hurting. How often being funny has helped me stay in a conversation I couldn’t bear to make serious.

Even being alone can start to feel like an audience has left and you can finally stop performing.

That thought stays with me.

So does this one: the moments of joy still belong to me. A laugh doesn’t become meaningless because I cried later. I don’t have to put every good moment on trial.

But I want to understand what happens when it gets quiet. I want to be able to tell someone the truth while I’m still capable of smiling.

And I want to stop postponing that conversation until I fall apart convincingly enough.

Because if everyone believes I’m okay because I keep showing up, I could spend years waiting for somebody to notice.

How much of my life am I willing to spend waiting to be asked a second time?
